What happens after a banned user
is detected? |
The Smack Down:
When a banned user is detected they
are shown a brief message window informing them that they are not permitted
to view this website and are summarily disconnected from our site within
1.5 seconds. I have coined this process as being a "Smack Down". I have
a right to Smack-a-Bruver down because this site is privately owned and
operated with private funds...my private funds to be exact. And my private
funds pay for the bandwidth used when a page is merely displayed in a users
browser, therefore I can choose to display (or to not display) my site
to whomever I fucking choose.
NARC Stopper then appends a "Smacked
Down" connection attempt as part of the banned users reflection data. But
many users are persistent and will repeatedly attempt to reconnect to the
site. Each attempt will result in a Smack Down, and when NARC Stopper detects
any banned reflection signature for the fifth time in a specified period
(currently 365 days), it then becomes more aggressive with the offending
user.
Increased Aggression:
On the 5th attempt, before disconnecting
the offending user, it initiates a brute force (loosely based on active-X)
control which initiates an entry to the users Windows HOSTS file, entering
a numeric IP address entry of (Local Host) 127.0.0.1 for the IP address
of marijuana-jokes.com. If an entry already exists, it is overwritten. This basically
points future requests from their browser right back to their own PC and
not our server.
After NARC Stopper has completed
it's task on a banned user, and this user attempts to access our site in
the future, the "Smacked Down" users browser will automatically be directed
to the erroneous IP address (Local Machine 127.0.0.1) stored in their Windows
HOSTS file and receive a "Cannot Find Server" error message in their browser.
Our site will literally be unreachable from ANY browser on the computer,
either currently installed or new installs. Nothing short of hand editing
of the Windows HOSTS file will allow reconnection to our site from that
computer. And even if the user makes this change and returns to our site,
NARC Stopper will give their narc-ass yet another Smack Down, alter their
Hosts file once again and promptly boot them in just over a second. And
it can do this all fucking day and night of they want to keep trying.
A note about the Windows HOSTS
file:
The HOSTS file is simply a
text database of frequently visited websites' numerical IP addresses. When
this file is populated with IP #'s the browser does not have to first access
a DNS (Domain Name Server) server to retrieve a given www.dot.com's numerical
IP address since it is already on the users machine and this process is
much faster. This can sometimes speed up surfing, but the file must be
constantly updated with new IP addresses changes or websites may appear
"not available" or "cannot find server" when requested by the browser.
And this is exactly what we want. If no numerical address exists, the browser
defaults to doing a fresh DNS look-up for each and every website you wish
to visit like normal. However, if an IP number exists in the HOSTS file,
the browser attempts to connect to this IP number without first verifying
it's correctness through a DNS lookup, which is the whole advantage and
purpose of using the HOSTS file. NARC Stopper could put any IP number in
there I wanted it to, ( a hard-core gay porn site would be funny), but
I just choose to refer it back to the local machine address (their own
PC) so they get a quick "cannot find server" error and think we're down
or off the air, when in actuality we still live and puffin' it up like
usual.

What other technologies are used
in NARC Stopper? |
Flood Gate technology:
NARC Stopper achieves it's quick
response time by incorporating "Flood Gate" technology, which is
a sub-software I've developed specifically for NARC Stopper. Upon NARC
Stopper's detection of a banned users fifth connection attempt, Flood Gate
will allow the NARC Stopper application to seize and use 100% of
the users bandwidth to quickly accomplish the Windows Host file changes
without detection or chance of intervention by the user. All other bandwidth
usage such as uploads, downloads, mail fetching, FTP, HTTP, IRC and the
like will be immediately halted and channeled to the NARC Stopper application.
I regret that further details of Flood Gate's operation cannot be discussed
here.
Flechette Technology:
With the advent of corporate and
personal firewalling software, Flood Gate employs a sub technology
aptly named "Flechette" which in testing has pierced through every
currently available firewall software product with a 100% success rate.
Without giving any further details, this technology simply relies upon
sheer speed to penetrate systems similar to a pitcher's fast ball going
past a batter for a strike. All PC firewalls use some form of software
to operate. And just like any other software on a computer, when it gets
overwhelmed (can't keep up with Flechette), it can lock up. And if it locks
up, it ceases to operate properly/effectively. I regret that further details
of Flechette's operation cannot be discussed here.
More about EMR interpretation: |
EMR interpretation technology is
not new. Equipment has long been in existence that will allow someone
(i.e. the NSA) to remotely capture this errant monitor EMR and reassemble
it to recreate the image displayed on the targets monitor screen from up
to several blocks away. But this is not what NARC Stopper does. It does
not see, nor read what is displayed on a monitor screen, it only interprets
the leaked EMR from individual pixel fluctuations caused by a users presence
which it then measures and interprets to form a reflection signature.

What hardware does NARC Stopper
employ? |
NARC Stopper is a very CPU intensive
system, yet it's relative operations perform extremely fast when coupled
with sufficient hardware. NARC Stopper could probably operate effectively
from a single 1.5Ghz CPU, but I desired a high level of reliability, redundancy
and a generous resources buffer. Therefore, I have installed quad 1.8Ghz
Pentium4 processors with over 4Gb of RAM dedicated to processing the server
side software.
Virtual testing has indicated that
this arrangement should be reliable and efficient for up to 500k-600k hits/day.
Therefore you should see absolutely no noticeable difference with the operation
of the site or page load times etc. In the unfortunate event of a total
failure or lock-up of the NARC Stopper system, data and page requests will
automatically be routed as normal, bypassing the NARC Stopper System entirely.
However, I'd like to note that during
testing I did run into complete system lock-up when a test user (who was
purposely banned by default for this particular test) connected to the
test site from 3 different PC's/connections simultaneously. We used a 56k
dial-up, a DSL, and a friends borrowed satellite system, all in the same
room. Each and every time we could reproduce the exact same results with
the system hanging then defaulting to standard protocol. Although this
scenario is highly unlikely under normal usage, we have still to figure
out what caused the error. We spent a few days on the problem to no avail,
then decided to move onto other areas of debugging, since the likelihood
of this specific event was very remote. Yet it still baffles me just the
same.
In the event of processor overloading,
NARC Stopper will first default to processing every other request (hit)
in an attempt to achieve a default efficiency of 70% resources free. If
the 70% percent cannot be maintained, it then defaults to processing every
3rd hit, and so forth and so on all the way down to total shut-down, always
maintaining the targeted 70% resources free default. This will ensure that
no interruptions or delay of any site operations occur whatsoever and that
the software will operate transparently as with any other website. This
level of efficiency is needed since the site has to first be up and running,
to have some punk-ass narc to stop or it defeats the whole fucking purpose,
if you know what I'm saying.

Is NARC Stopper available for
license and use on other websites? |
Yes and No. A full license is not
available at this time. However, until we can release the full public version
of NARC Stopper, we are seeking to test it even further on other websites
(see below). Once further beta testing is concluded and future planned
developments, debugging and features are incorporated into the software,
it will be made available for retail distribution to the general public.
I hope to have this completed within 6-8 months.
|
How much will NARC Stopper cost? |
An exact pricing structure for NARC
Stopper has not been worked out yet. But for a ballpark figure, we hope
to introduce the software itself at under $180.00. Software and hardware
packages should vary from $900-$1700, depending on the scale of your system,
and professional installation will also be available at a very resonable
price if needed. We intend it to be a very reasonably priced system to
implement and maintain by using only brand name, off-the-shelf hardware
components. NARC Stopper's potential benefits, security and piece of mind
will far outweigh it's costs. In addition, ALL counterculture genre
websites will recieve a 25% discount off of NARC Stopper's yet-to-be-determined
final retail price.

Is Your Site Protected?
We are seeking small to medium sized
websites of a similar counterculture genre as marijuana-jokes.com who would like
to participate in the free beta testing of this product. We will
implement the latest and fully-stable version of the NARC Stopper system
on your site free of charge in exchange for a brief monthly feedback questionnaire
and the use of automatically generated system performance data and bug
reports from your website.
Benefits for participating beta
test sites:
-
No changes to your existing website
structure will be necessary.
-
A simple copy-and-paste snippet of code
placed on your webpage is all that is required to get NARC Stopper immediately
employed on your site!
-
Absolutely no processes will be required
to run on your server. All NARC Stopper processes will be mirrored from
our main system here (one of the reasons I've sized it's hardware with
ample resources).
-
Your site will be able to utilize the
NARC Stopper system without any effect whatsoever on your current website
operations.
-
You will have complete, password protected
and confidential access to your own default Smack Down (banned known users)
list where you may add and delete banned users at your discretion. We will
not reproduce, nor access your reflection signature data in any way. We
have no use for this information whatsoever. We are interested only in
the systems performance data and automatically generated bug reports, so
that we may further improve NARC Stopper for final release.
-
Once beta testing is completed, participating
beta test sites will receive a 50% discount on the final retail release
of NARC Stopper if they desire to purchase it at that time. Otherwise,
there is no further obligation.
Website beta testing requirements

Ready to see an example of NARC
Stopper in action? |
Please read
this before clicking on our example!
What you're about to see:
We are about to show you some actual
reflection signatures processed by NARC Stopper.
We are attempting to show you the
closest representation of what NARC Stopper actually "sees" after it processes
a reflection signature. But since the system "sees" by translating raw
data in complex algorithms, it does not create nor look at an actual graphical
image. So, for the purposes of this demonstration only, I have written
in an additional and rather complex subroutine that will allow NARC Stopper
to translate and process a raw reflection signature into a "human readable"
(graphical) form. Therefore, the resulting "images" are not digital images,
but are the closest approximation of what NARC Stopper is actually "seeing"
when it reads a reflection signature.
Since the re-processing of reflection
signature data to generate a human readable image is still very CPU and
resource intensive (about 5x more than merely processing reflection data),
NARC Stopper is set to graphically process and display a totally random
reflection image from recently processed reflection signatures. You may
see banned and non-banned signatures in these examples. These reflection
signatures are used for demonstration purposes only and are then discarded,
unless a match is made. Therefore it is highly unlikely that you will see
your own reflection signature (image) in these examples-even if you were
on our site for many hours. We simply get far too many hits/hr for the
likelihood of this to happen, so please do not keep reclicking this link
in hopes of doing so.
While we very much want to show you
these graphical representations so that you may get a feel for exactly
what this revolutionary system does, if for some reason this demonstration
should prove to be overly taxing on the NARC Stopper system resources,
it will be discontinued to prevent resource allocation problems.
